Our final PIA Detail Hour for 2026 is going to be a little different.

As we look ahead to the 2027 Regional Awards for Architecture, we want to have an honest conversation about what really happens behind the polished project photographs and presentations.
Because architecture is rarely a straight line.
Projects change.
Budgets change.
Clients change their minds.
Things go wrong.
Compromises have to be made.
And sometimes the best solutions come from the problems we never expected.

For this Detail Hour, we will be joined by Nadine Engelbrecht and Leon van der Westhuizen, who will share their experiences and perspectives on the realities behind their projects – the challenges, frustrations, adaptations and lessons that don’t necessarily make it into the final presentation.

We will also look at the 2027 Regional Awards for Architecture and what makes a project worth entering.
This is a conversation about real architecture, real projects and real experiences – particularly for younger architects and smaller practices who may wonder whether Awards are for them.

Come and hear what happens behind the scenes.
