WELCOME

Welcome to the Department of Architecture at Tshwane University of Technology. We wish you a pleasant and productive time preparing yourself for your chosen career in architecture. In this Department, both students and staff, are a very close knit family, who enjoy and support each other in this exciting teaching and learning process. Studying architecture is one of the most rewarding and creative processes which you are likely to ever experience and we are sure that in years to come you will think fondly back to your time spent here. That is of course, if you put in a responsible effort and take your studies seriously.

Course
Criteria
1. The minimum admission requirement for all applicants is 60% aggregate for the final year of
undergraduate studies in architecture.
2. Candidates who do not meet the 60% aggregate minimum academic requirements, may be invited for
an interview with the Departmental Selection Committee for consideration.
3. In addition to Item 1, ALL TUT students with a grade of 60% OR LESS for ANY ONE of the subjects
listed below, will also be required to attend an interviewwith the Departmental Selection Committee.

4. All of the following students have to attend the selection interviews:
– All students from universities other than TUT.
– All TUT students who interrupted their studies from undergraduate- to postgraduate level.
– All TUT students with a grade of 60% or lower for any one subject as listed underItem 2.
– All TUT students with a grade of 55% or lower for any of the other 4th year subjects not listed
above.
5. The interviews are either in person at the Department or on-line.
– The Department is located in Building 11 of the TUT Pretoria West campus (accessible from
Staatsartillerie Road). The interview will last between 15-30 minutes and the exact time slot will
be communicated at a later stage.
– Please inform the Department timeously should you require an online interview.
6. Interview dates
– Contact the department to confirm the dates of the portfolio submission, the interview and its
format. Preliminary dates are indicated below.
7. For the selection interview the following documentation has to be submitted beforehand:
– A cover letter accompanying the application
– Curriculum Vitae
– Full official academic transcripts of all undergraduate results
– An admission essay of maximum 2500 words, using 12pt Times New Roman text. This
statement of purpose should introduce yourself, explain your educational, training, and career
goals.
– A portfolio of maximum 10 x A3 pages, or 20 x A4 pages, addressing the following aspects:
— Undergraduate Design
— Undergraduate Theory
— Undergraduate Construction
— Practice work
8. The outcome of the section interview (acceptance or rejection)will be communicated within 10 working
days (or soonest) after the interview.
– The decision and/or recommendation of the selection panel is final and no correspondence will
be entered into.
– The University reserves the right to select the best candidates for the available post-graduate
programmes.
9. An information session is scheduled for ALL the post-graduate students in January (or soonest) before
the start of the new academic year.
