As Architects, we endorse the objectives of the South African Institute of Architects, also the South African Council of Architectural Professions Transformation Agenda Imperatives, the South African Constitution, the National Development Plan and the Sustainable Development Goals. In our role as ‘designers of the future,’ we can support these objectives by transforming the profession (inward) and playing a role in transforming wider society and built environments (outward).
Transforming the profession
We will support transformation in the profession by:
Ensuring PIA initiatives are inclusive and non-discriminatory.
Working actively to remove barriers related to economics, culture, gender, race, disability and other areas which may affect access to, and progress in, the profession.
Regularly surveying members and potential members to identify barriers, and to inform transformation initiative.
Undertake initiatives to support an inclusive profession including but not limited to: mentorship programmes, encouraging and promoting scholarships, introductory talks at schools and career days, informative digital media and leaflets.
Transforming wider society and built environments.
We will support transformation in the wider society and built environments focusing on improving the quality of life experience of all disadvantaged sectors through:
Developing and sharing constructive commentary and insight on built environment initiatives, considered, or being undertaken by the public and private sector.
Support proactive, forward-thinking initiatives that explore the future of architecture.
Providing a platform for PIA members to publish academic and insightful articles and research.
Assist with high-level strategic guidance to the public and private sectors. Providing access to expert knowledge to improve the effective and efficient delivery of projects.
