LOCAL AUTHORITIES COMMITTEE

The PIA aims to protect and develop the architectural and built environmental within the PIA Region, by active liaison with the City Councils, Department of Public Works, other state entities, private companies and individual citizens.

The PIA focusses on liaison between the authorities and private sector to encourage and foster the understanding that architecture plays a fundamental role in human centered living and working environments. The built architectural environment and public open space are not only related but are activated by each other.

The PIA is particularly concerned with the heritage of Pretoria and its region and the role that architecture has played in creating a world class capitol city and promote the heritage landscape in general. Our position is that heritage is an asset with the protentional of unlocking cultural, tourism, recreational and commercial activities by uniting our diversities.

The PIA also aims to promote best practice for sustainable development with respect to the impact of architecture on social, economic and natural environments within our region.
