STREY ARCHITECTS
PROJECT ARCHITECT:
FREDERICH STREY
While the restrictions of estate guidelines and west facing site, surrounded by existing houses, left very little room for innovation, the architects have created an understated and restrained response. The farm-style vernacular has been successfully modernised through the flat-roofed junction of two prominent pitched-roof bookends with ‘’floating’’ roofs.
The proportions of the pitched roof blocks create an appropriate street scale and their north orientation provides enough thermal control for the bedroom and living wings. The roof height also provides the advantage of mezzanine spaces over these areas while the location of windows at floor level provides unique natural lighting. The choice of materials furthers the architectural restraint and provides a cool and calm interior. Citation by: Arthur Barker
